South Africa - 2010 Group B - Argentina

The main favorite of group B is Argentina, the squad coached by Maradona - a brilliant player but an awful coach. This will surely affect the team's performances in this year World Championship and they will have to fight hard t get out of the group phase, along Nigeria, Greece and South Korea.
Messi and Higuain are the stars in this team, but the other will have a heavy word to say deciding whether Argentina will challenge the title with any real chances.

South Africa - 2010 Group A - Mexico

Mexico is one of the most common teams when you are talking about World Cups. However they haven't achieved any major performance, even they have hosted the World Cup twice, in 1970 and 1986.They always look ready to be the big surprise, but in the end they go home after group stage. The Group A shows little opportunities for them to take, but we must admit that a surprise is always possible.
So let's give 5% percent chances to Mexico and Rafa Marques to reach the last 16.

South Africa - 2010 Group A - Uruguay

What about the two time World Champion: Uruguay. They have made a habit of qualifying to the final tournament after playoff matches, this made making it through despite Costa Rica.
They have a solid team with the main star: Suarez, the main shooting power for Ajax Amsterdam and Forlan, Villareal striker . They have met France in 2002 and contributed to their exit full of shame in the group, without even scoring a goal.
If they will be able to do this performance again, will be left to see in this hot summer in South Africa.

South Africa - 2010 Group A - South Africa

The host of the 2010 World Championship is looking for a great performance this year and for that they have brought Pereira, a Brazilian coach, well known for his performances at national teams.
Their main goal is to exit the groups and they are right. Being in the same group with France, means that theoretically only one spot remains to qualify in best 16 teams. The fight for this place will be with Uruguay and Mexico, two powerful teams, that are living too much on memories.
With key players like Evra and Pienaar, Bafana-Bafana team will be a team to watch, but I'm afraid that they won't exit the group stage.

South Africa - 2010 Group A - France

Group A has a clear favorite in France, former 1998 World champion and second placed in Gremany 2006. With a team full of stars and with almost any position on the field with at least two players to fit, France is among favorites of winning the world cup.
With players like Henry, Benzema or Vieira their hopes are well based and only their trainer ability to put them on the field could be the difference between first place and the shame of not exiting the groups like they did 8 years ago in South Korea & Japan world cup.
My opinion is that France will exit Group A, even the matches against other teams look pretty tough.

Football in 2010

Our days football has became a real business with huge amounts of money spent and you only have to take a look at some major clubs in Europe to see why. Manchester United, Barcelona or Real Madrid are a few of the big names that bring each year profits of hundreds of millions of euros, even within this economical crisis.
Hard to say if these clubs will ever fall, but we only can praise the extraordinary level they have achieved. To be able to spend 100 millions euros on just one player sounds fabulous, but it's real and ones at Real Madrid surely do like to ride the big horses.
Major competitions like UEFA Champions League or Europa League are the final destination for any team in Europe, in order to reach fame and money.
Other continents are only a pale replica of Europe and none of them are even at half distance of the scale the football has reached in the Old-Continent. Copa Libertadores or the Asian Champions League are coming strong from behind, but they miss one important and decisive thing: money.
This year-2010, will also bring the World Championship in South Africa, where no less than 32 teams will battle for the final glory in football. As usual the main favorites are Brazil, the team with most World Cups won till today.

Football - the beginning

What started in the 18th century as a simple game, almost banned by the authorities because of the violence that this so called sport has encouraged, ended being our days more like a religion and surely the most popular sport activity in the world.
It is hard to say when and why this sport has become so popular amongst masses, but surely there are some reasons for this:- lots of players involved in this game, meaning that a lot of people could participate by playing it;
- simple rules, especially in the beginning of this game: kick the ball and score a goal!
- the violent part of this game attracted men because of the possibility of relaxing and let go of his wild spirit; The English have been the first ones to recognize this sport officially so they really are the parents of this magnificent sport. However they were catched from behind by other nations and there was no wonder that at first World Championship, in 1930,the crown was lifted by the host team: Uruguay, in front of more than 93.000 people.
Since then till today, excepting the period of the second World War, at every 4 years a world championship is help and the best teams for all around the world meet and fight for the most wanted trophy: Jules Rimet cup.
